Litho Printing
Litho printing is suitable for high volume 4 colour disc printing
We offer CD Offset Printing (or CD Litho printing ) on both Replicated CD & DVD Replication and DVD and CD Duplication projects.
Although traditionally used on higher volume replicated runs, we are also able to print low volume CDR or DVDR runs using offset CD printing. This is suitable for 4 colour work where additional spot colours or lacquers may be required to give particular effects or finishes. Most four colour CD or DVD artwork will be better printed digitally using or digital CD printing service but where volumes are in excess of 5000 units it is often more cost effective to print offset. 10pdm offer all options for disc print and we will advise you on the best solution based on your specific requirements.
Litho printing also starts with photographic exposure used to generate plates. In litho (also more correctly known as offset) the print is made up of 4 colours; cyan, magenta, yellow and black (CMYK), and is usually printed on a white base. This white base can also be a custom white base to reveal the silver area of the disc if required.
Artwork is separated into these constituent colours and from the exposed films 4 plates are made. This ink is applied to these and rubber rollers then pick the ink up, reapplying it to the surface of the disc. Once the 4 colours have been sequentially applied then the disc is cured under a strong UV light. This hardens the ink into a solid scratch resistant finish. Some additional effects are possible, much the same as is available for screen printing. For example once the four colours (CMYK) have been applied it is possible to use a spot varnish to make certain areas glossy or matt.
DVD and CD print templates are available in the resources section as is information on how to supply artwork for offset printing.
